PrEP or pre-exposure prophylaxis is an HIV prevention tool. It is a tablet containing two antiretroviral active ingredients that can be taken by an HIV negative person during risk exposure so as to stay protected against the HIV infection.
In 2015, the World Health Organisation (WHO) issued a strong recommendation that PrEP should be made available as an additional choice for HIV prevention for persons exposed to significant risk from the virus, as part of a combination package of prevention options.
